At The Center, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality clinical services and advanced psychotherapist training. Cognitive and Behavioral therapies are the accepted ”gold-standard” in psychotherapy today. Mindfulness, Acceptance and Compassion are among the most studied psychotherapy methods in the world.
The Center was founded by internationally recognized psychologist and author, Dennis Tirch PhD. Dr. Tirch is the author of 5 books and numerous scientific articles on mindfulness and compassion based CBT, and he regularly delivers workshops throughout the world.
Dr. Tirch is a member of the faculty of Weill-Cornell Medical College, has privileges as an Attending Psychologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital and practiced and served as the Associate Director of The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy, working with Dr. Robert Leahy, for 11 years. Dr. Tirch is a Diplomate and Fellow of The Academy of Cognitive Therapy and a New York State Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Tirch is the President Elect of the NYC-CBT Association, Past President of NYC-ACBS, and President of The Compassionate Mind Foundation USA.
The Center for Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is the first clinical training institute for CFT in the USA. CFT is a form of CBT that builds on the science by integrating the neuroscience of positive emotion, and methods derived from Buddhist psychology. We have established this center in collaboration with CFT founder, internationally esteemed English psychologist Dr. Paul Gilbert OBE, and The Center is the volunteer base for The Compassionate Mind Foundation, USA.
Additionally, The Center serves as a hub for training and practice in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is an advanced form of behavior therapy, that aims to help people live richer, more meaningful and more purposeful lives. ACT is at the vanguard of CBT research and treatment development, and has expanded our understanding of how to achieve our most heartfelt aims, in the face of serious psychological and medical problems. Dr. Tirch was a founder of the Greater New York Chapter of ACBS, the global ACT research and practice community. Dr. Tirch was among the first psychotherapists to promote and develop training programs for ACT in New York.
